Four seasoned musicians have joined together to create an evening of community singing featuring songs of change and hope. Protest songs, spirituals, and anthems have lifted voices, built strength and inspiration. Join us and sing classics made famous by Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary, Crosby Stills & Nash, Simon & Garfunkel, and the Beatles, and many others.
Amy Friedricks -- Amy's first band experience was as a founding member of the Kazoo Marching Band at her high school. Since then she has played guitar, bass, and ukulele with various groups all over the Bay Area for a number of years. Most recently she has been the bassist/vocalist for The Quarry Persons, a Beatles tribute band. She has been singing her whole life -- in choirs, in bands, in all types of jams and around the campfire. She is a sought-after guitar, bass, and ukulele teacher for both adults and kids and loves to help students discover the joy of making music.
Fred Ross-Perry - Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Fred Ross-Perry picked up his first musical instrument (a ukulele) at age 9, and never looked back. From there he graduated to cello, but switched to guitar because it was easier to take to parties. Throughout most of his musical life he's concentrated on playing guitar, bass, piano and a variety of other instruments in bands such as No Strings Attached, and locally, The Refreshments. A published songwriter, Fred has several pieces in regular rotation at reform synagogues across the country.
Jamie Knapp is an in-demand upright bassist in the Sacramento area. She currently plays with Americana-pop band According to Bazooka, gypsy jazz band The Djangonauts, acoustic trio Tree-O, as well as a community big band and Café Panache, in which she plays classical guitar. She has played upright bass for about 15 years and guitar since she was a child. She’s also a solid harmony singer. As evidenced by the musical diversity of her current projects, Jamie is comfortable playing in multiple musical styles, from folk and pop to straight-ahead jazz and gypsy jazz.
Mike Spinrad is a composer, arranger, drummer and percussionist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has composed the music for two released CDs under his own name, a jazz trio for “It's Morning” and a sextet for “Horns.” He has toured with jazz and pop groups throughout the United States, and had his music played throughout the world. Mike's technical drumming articles have been published by Percussive Notes magazine.
